Why is Your WeMo Blinking Orange? How To Fix It?

Upon putting up our usual search for consumer queries, we found several complaints about the WeMo switches.

First, users reported that there had been an orange light blinking on the device. Further, they stated that the switches are not even detected on the mobile app.

According to the official website of WeMo and based on our experiments with the device, WeMo devices usually don’t have any flashing lights when they are running normally.

No light on a WeMo switch indicates that it is working normally. Hence, when there is a blinking status on WeMo, that means there is something with the device that requires attention.

Why Does This Issue Of WeMo Blinking Orange Occur?

To answer the basic question of what the orange blinking light indicates, we’d start by saying it is not very severe. Your WeMo blinking orange is a sign that the switches cannot connect to the Wi-Fi.

Moreover, if you see orange and white lighting blinking simultaneously, it indicates that the WeMo switch is between setup modes.

Before trying any troubleshooting step or contacting a technician, ensure that your internet connection is at its best. You also need to ensure that you use the same network as the switch on the phone.

This orange light can be seen on the following WeMo devices:

This article will discuss some of the most common yet effective troubleshooting steps, which will help you fix the issues you are facing with the WeMo switches.

1. Try Rebooting the Wi-Fi Access Point

Now that we know the reason for WeMo blinking orange is a weak connection to Wi-Fi, the same way to fix this is by rebooting the access point of your Wi-Fi. This is because the switch may be experiencing some glitch while connecting to the Wi-Fi access point.

Different routers have different processes to reset their Wi-Fi access point. Some of these routers also come with a separate reset button.

In any case, we suggest you analyze the process of rebooting the Wi-Fi access point. Now press and hold this button for about 10-15 seconds, and your device will reset.

2. Try Hard Power Cycle

If rebooting the device didn’t help you fix your problem, you can try to resolve the issue by performing a hard power cycle. It is needless to mention that you will be required to power cycle every switch you have for this idea to be effective.

The power cycling procedure is pretty simple to perform. All you need to do is turn off the switch and then unplug from the wall.

Next, wait for a while and then insert the WeMo switch back to its place, turning it on after that. Finally, if your device has a separate restart button, you need to press and hold the button for about 10-15 seconds.

3. Try Refreshing the Network List

Moving on to the final method towards fixing your WeMo switch blinking orange, we suggest you refresh the network list on the device.

For this, all you need to do is press the reset button and hold it for a while. Now release the reset button and do the same with the restart button for about 10 seconds.

You will see that the network list is refreshed on your WeMo mobile app. Once it is refreshed, you can reconnect the network.
